The new two manual organ was designed and built by Wells-Kennedy Partnership Ltd. in their workshops at Lisburn in 1983. It replaces a thirty year old instrument constructed on the extension principle by Jardine of Manchester and uses certain pipework from this organ as its nucleus. The handsome oak case was designed to compliment the existing furnishings as well as to blend and focus the sound of the pipes within.
The organ employs slider soundboards to the manual divisions controlled by a sensitive mechanical key action, whilst electric action is retained to the drawstops and pedals. The initial specification had 13 speaking stops compromising 710 pipes in all. Provision was made for the addition of the Great Mixture and Swell Sesquialtera giving 15 speaking stops and 966 pipes. These two stops were added in 1989.
