Counteract was established in 1990 by the Irish Congress of Trade Unions and sponsored by ICTU affiliated unions, with the aim of combatting sectarianism and intimidation both in the workplace and community.
To develop action policies and strategies in co-operation with trade unions, councils of trade unions, employers and community organisations aimed at alleviating the incidences of initmidation and sectarianism in the workplace and community.
To organise anti-sectarian training to unions, councils of trade unions and communtiy groups to develop anti-sectarian guide lines in unions and the workforce.
To undertake research into the incidence of intimidation in the workplace.
