Last month an open meeting was held in White’s Tavern’s to discuss plans for the Belfast Gay Pride celebrations for 2000.  Belfast Pride is celebrating it’s tenth birthday this year and it was decided that the time was now right for an injection of new ideas, new faces and a renewed enthusiasm, in order to make this year’s celebration bigger and better than ever.

The meeting was extremely well attended with 30 people turning up on the night

It was decided that the planning of Pride Week should be divided into four key areas.

u   Marketing & Advertising
u   Fundraising
u   Events
u   Cultural & Community Workshops

It was agreed that a “Working Group” of volunteers should be formed for each of these areas.

Each of these “Working Groups” would then nominate a group leader and these leaders would form the Belfast Pride 2000 Committee. Volunteers came forward to stand in each of these groups and duly nominated their respective leaders.

Also at the meeting the Pride Committee Chairperson, Secretary and Treasurer were elected.

These working groups have already had a couple of meetings and discussions about planning and funding are already well under way.

We only have less than three months to get this show on the road and whilst things have started moving we need many more people to get involved.
